A power play goal by Stefan Noesen put the Whalers on the board six minutes, 23 seconds into the second period. The Otters were able to tie the game with a power play goal of their own as Brett Thompson knocked in a one-timer pass from Greg McKegg for his first goal of the season with three minutes, 51 seconds left in the second.
